Collegiate initiatives & Opportunities

Wrestle Like Girl was successful in bringing women’s wrestling under the NCAA umbrella as an Emerging Sport in 2020 and will use the same targeted approach to bring Women’s Wrestling to NCAA Championship Status.

Wrestle Like A Girl and the National Wrestling Coalition are working with the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics to get NCAA ESS and Championship Status.

Updates

8/1/2020: The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics has recommended women’s wrestling for NCAA Emerging Sport Status to the Div. I, II, and III Committees for an official ESS designation August 01, 2020.

10/17/2023 Emerging Sports for Women update: Women’s wrestling on track for championship consideration.

 

Collegiate Opportunities

As of January 2024, there are over 170 collegiate opportunities for women to continue their wrestling careers in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. We have partnered with the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Coalition to list out these opportunities.

National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships

On December 16, 2019 The Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Coalition announced the Inagural National Collegeiate Womens’s Wrestling Championships. The tournament was open to all NCAA varsity women’s wrestling programs at the DI, DII, and DIII levels. This was an important step in the process of receiving NCAA Emerging Sport Status for women’s wrestling.
