ORGANIZATION
Founded in mid-2016 by Sally Roberts, a combat veteran, 3x National Champion and 2x World Bronze Medalist, the mission of Wrestle Like A Girl, Inc. (WLAG) is to empower girls and women through the sport of wrestling to become leaders in life. We do this through a combination of advocacy and empowerment camps. Our vision is to increase the opportunities for girls and women, who either wrestle, want to wrestle, or want to participate in a movement to own their personal space, voice and their sense of self.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW
The NCAA Emerging Sports Status (ESS) Representative plays a vital role in the program area of WLAG and reports to the Executive Director. This role has both internal and external facing responsibilities, provides day-to-day management of a critical program area and ensures quality delivery that is in alignment with WLAG’s vision, mission and values. Bottom line: you are helping to implement the second largest program area of the organization and a global movement of equality and inclusion. 

This position oversees and is responsible for coordinating all aspects of NCAA Emerging Sports Status process on behalf of the U.S. National Wrestling Committee.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented, able to multi-task effectively, a team player, and a highly passionate advocate for girls to feel empowered to reach and fulfill their highest potential in life.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to)

Organization Mission, Strategy and Metrics (5%)

  • Implement the goals, objectives and benchmarks for the NCAA ESS process

  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field

Financial Performance (5%)

  • Work closely with the Controller to create ESS budget and track expenses

  • Monitor spending and notify the Executive Director with any critical issues or needs that arise

Program Management (50%)

Committee Representation

  • Establish an NCAA Women’s Wrestling Committee from member schools to facilitate the Emerging Sport Status process and ensure relevant NCAA bylaws, policies and standards are met

  • Support the development of a body image positive weight cutting/management program to ensure the athletes health and wellbeing are maintained and a culture of positive body imaging is at the foundation of the program

  • Attend Div. I, II, III Committee Meetings over the course of the process to present and support the discussions about women’s wrestling, address questions and concerns, and provide requested information

  • Create working groups across Divisions to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices on a variety of women’s wrestling topics

  • Ensure all requests made throughout the process are completed in a timely manner, accurately, and with a professional appearance

 

Female Coaching Preparation

  • Build a coaching pipeline for future NCAA female coaches through mentorship programs with men’s wrestling coaches, Women’s National Team staff, female NCAA coaches OUTSIDE of wrestling to understand administrative, political, and bureaucratic best practices

  • Identify and develop a recruiting concept for sports outside of wrestling that could be a potential track into women’s wrestling

  • Build awareness among the member schools of the desire and need for female coaches in all divisions of collegiate women’s wrestling through quarterly newsletters, phone calls, emails and using the member schools’ communication channels

  • Create a webinar series specific to coaching women’s wrestling at the collegiate level

  • Develop a Mentorship program in collaboration with the U.S. National Women’s Wrestling coach

Collegiate Program support

  • Create and disseminate requested program material (ie. How to start a program, recruiting information, etc.) and presentations to member schools requesting support

  • Attend requested meetings with Athletic Directors, Presidents, and other requested administrative officials

  • Support with current coaching language, safeguarding policies, feminine hygiene, and weight management support/input, as necessary

Communications (45%)

  • Attend all required or significant Division I, II, & III Committee/Council meetings to present information on behalf of the U.S. Women’s Wrestling Committee

  • Effectively communicate pertinent information related to the ESS process to all relevant stakeholders in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with WLAG’s Digital Media Specialist on all requested presentations and content to be delivered across platforms

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS AND CAPABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Minimum five years’ professional experience required, preferably in the nonprofit, sport or youth development realms

  • Minimum three years competitive wrestling preferred, basic wrestling knowledge required

  • Minimum two years’ experience in program management

  • Minimum two years’ experience working with campers aged 5-18 years in a sports coaching, education or activity setting

  • Self-motivated, able to balance multiple and competing priorities or deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time

  • Must be able to pass a background check and undergo SafeSport certification (if you don’t already have these items)

  • Remote based position, with regular meetings with WLAG and wrestling leadership

COMPENSATION

  • $50,000 - $65,000
